Arun Control Systems was invited to modify an existing incinerator control system and add a SCADA system to act as an operator interface panel and data logger at a crematorium in the midlands.
The existing PLC is a Siemens S7 which we modified to incorporate additional digital and analogue I/O. This enabled us to monitor more process values (gas flow, environmental and temperature values) and to enhance the safety logic, specifically around the interlocks preventing combustion.
The SCADA chosen was a Siemens WinCC V7.0, running on Windows XP.
The system provides mimics, trends and alarms and logs the data to a server to provide a formal record of the performance and, in particular, the measured emissions.
The image design was considerate of the fact that the operator was using a touch screen.
Training was given to the operators on site.
